Organizer: School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering

Report introduction:

Tribology is the science of friction, lubrication and wear. It governs different facets of powertrains including efficiency, durability and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) refinement. Tribological phenomena are in nature multi-physics, forming thermo-fluid, solid mechanics, dynamics , chemical engineering, materials engineering. This requires a multi-physics approach in investigating, designing and optimizing tribology of powertrain components. This lecture will outline the abovementioned tribo-dynamic in the context of powertrains by providing examples of the past and current research in the field.

Brief introduction of the reporter:

Mahdi Mohammadpour is an associate professor of dynamics at Wolfson College, Loughborough University and a doctoral supervisor. His main research direction is the tribology and dynamics of automotive transmissions and differentials. Obtained a PhD from Loughborough University in 2014, and then continued to engage in postdoctoral research at Loughborough University. In 2018, he was appointed as a senior lecturer (associate professor) in dynamics. Served as deputy editor-in-chief of "International Power Transmission Systems", member of the editorial board of "Shock and Vibration", co-chairman of the PMC2016 conference, co-chairman of the ICAVP2017 conference, chairman of the "7th IC-SCCE" conference in Athens, Proc. IMechE, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics PMC2016 conference co-chair. So far, he has published more than 60 academic papers, and won the IMechE 2014 Best Paper Award and the IOP 2016 Best Paper Award.
